How the round is done

One bead. One name. Do not cross the meru.

Sit after washing your hands. Hold the mala on the middle finger and the ring finger, and move each bead with the thumb. The index finger stays off the beads.

A round is 108 names. When you reach the larger meru bead, you do not step over it. You turn the mala and come back the way you went. That is one full mala.

Seven faces are the traditional mark kept with Mahalakshmi. People use this count on Friday, or whenever the mind needs one steady repetition instead of ten new remedies. The loose bead in the parcel is for the altar or the pocket. It is not a second mala.

The photograph is a teaching picture, not a claim that a named priest has certified your parcel. Rudraksha faces vary slightly from bead to bead. If a bead is cracked through the hole, write to us before you start jap.
