Keep the prayer corner light
पूजा का कोना हल्का रखें
The north-east of a home or shop is the quiet corner. A small altar, a lamp, and empty floor around it. Do not store boxes, shoes or a dustbin there. If you are in a hotel for a yatra, use the cleanest east-facing side of the room for the photo or murti you travelled with — not the bathroom wall.
घर या दुकान का ईशान कोना शांत रखा जाता है। छोटी वेदी, एक दीप, और आसपास खाली फ़र्श। वहाँ डिब्बे, जूते या कूड़ादान न रखें। यात्रा के होटल में मूर्ति या फ़ोटो कमरे की साफ़ पूर्वी ओर रखें — बाथरूम की दीवार पर नहीं।

A main door that sticks, or opens onto a dirty staircase, tires the house before anyone speaks. North and east entrances are traditionally preferred. If yours faces south or west, do not break the wall — keep the threshold clean, a pair of working lights, and no broken shoe rack in the way.

Cash and the ledger face north
नकदी और बही उत्तर की ओर
In a shop, the cash drawer and the person who writes the bill traditionally sit facing north or east. The locker opens towards the north. Do not put the safe under a beam or sharing a wall with a toilet. A heavy south-west wall behind the owner’s chair is considered a backrest, not a block.
दुकान में नकदी और बिल लिखने वाला पारंपरिक रूप से उत्तर या पूर्व मुख बैठता है। लॉकर उत्तर की ओर खुले। तिजोरी शहतीर के नीचे या शौचालय की दीवार से सटा कर न रखें। मालिक की कुर्सी के पीछे भारी नैऋत्य दीवार सहारा मानी जाती है, रुकावट नहीं।

South-east · आग्नेय
Fire stays in the south-east
आग आग्नेय में रहे
The gas, the inverter heat and the boiler belong towards the south-east. Cooking while facing east is the old habit, and it still keeps the cook out of the doorway. A kitchen in the north-east fights the prayer corner. If you cannot move the slab, at least keep the stove off the north-east wall.
गैस, इनवर्टर की गर्मी और बॉयलर आग्नेय दिशा में रखे जाते हैं। पूर्व मुख पकाना पुरानी आदत है और रसोइये को दरवाज़े से अलग रखती है। ईशान में रसोई पूजा के कोने से लड़ती है। स्लैब न हिल सके तो चूल्हा कम से कम ईशान की दीवार पर न हो।

South-west · नैऋत्य
Sleep with the head to the south or east
सिर दक्षिण या पूर्व की ओर
The heavier bedroom sits in the south-west. Head towards the south, or east if the bed cannot turn. Feet should not point at the door. A mirror facing the bed keeps the mind awake — cover it at night if the room is small. On a yatra, choose the bed that does not put your head under a low beam.
भारी शयनकक्ष नैऋत्य में बैठता है। सिर दक्षिण की ओर, या बिस्तर न घूमे तो पूर्व। पाँव दरवाज़े की ओर न हों। बिस्तर के सामने शीशा मन को जगाए रखता है — कमरा छोटा हो तो रात को ढक दें। यात्रा में वह बिस्तर चुनें जहाँ सिर नीची शहतीर के नीचे न पड़े।

Don’t. No beam on the chest, no mirror staring at the pillow.

Whoever takes the money should see people entering, without sitting in the doorway itself. Shelves heavier on the south and west, lighter stock towards the north. A broken tube-light over the counter is not a small thing — replace it before you change the paint. For a new office, sit facing east or north, with a solid wall behind you.

North-east water
Water in the north-east, drain it out
जल ईशान में, निकास साफ़
A drinking-water pot, a small fountain or the overhead tank’s cleaner side is kept towards the north-east. Stagnant water, a leaking cooler and a blocked drain cancel the benefit. Toilets are better in the west or north-west, never as the first thing a guest sees in the north-east.
पीने का पानी, छोटा फव्वारा या टंकी का साफ़ भाग ईशान की ओर रखा जाता है। रुका पानी, टपकता कूलर और बंद नाली लाभ काट देते हैं। शौचालय पश्चिम या वायव्य में बेहतर है, ईशान में मेहमान की पहली नज़र नहीं।

Vastu starts with what is already broken: a cracked step, a door that screams, a clock that is stopped, a picture hanging crooked over the cash box. Fix those before you buy a pyramid, a mirror or a new colour. A north-facing shop with a rotting shutter is not ‘good vastu’. It is a rotting shutter.
वास्तु पहले टूटी हुई चीज़ से शुरू होता है — दरार वाली सीढ़ी, चीखता दरवाज़ा, रुकी घड़ी, नकदी के ऊपर टेढ़ी तस्वीर। पिरामिड, शीशा या नया रंग खरीदने से पहले इन्हें ठीक करें। सड़ी शटर वाली उत्तरमुखी दुकान ‘अच्छा वास्तु’ नहीं। वह सड़ी शटर है।
